Living Your Life on Purpose
In reading "Home with God: In a Life that Never Ends" by Neale Donald Walsch, I realized a key point in this book is that if our soul is still on this plane of existence...still on Earth...then it is because our soul chooses to be here.
I read a section last night that said that many souls do die and come back an average of four times before they finally leave. They come back because they realize that they are not finished yet with what they came to do...and they come back into their bodies a nanosecond before they passed.
These are the near misses, the scrapes with death that many of us have. These could be operations that we have that perhaps the doctors thought for a second that they were going to lose us...or accidents that happen to us and we walk away with either no or minor injuries that could have been much more serious.
I remember one in particular where my truck slid sideways on an icy bridge. It slid the other way too and somehow my truck just suddenly straightened up on its own. I suppose that I could have easily died right there. I have had two other times in my life in the hospital that had close calls.
I had never thought about it from that perspective though.
I had always thought that when I died, my soul just left and that was it. What I learned in studying this book is that my soul...all our souls are here by choice and even if we die, we have the choice to move on to the next plane of existence or come back.
If our soul comes back, it means that the soul has not fulfilled its purpose yet.
Now even feeling as I have for the last couple of years that I am starting to fulfill my purpose in this world, that brings a whole new dimension to things.
It means that I wake up in the morning now and ask myself:
How am I fulfilling my purpose for living today?
All of my life, the idea of there being a "purpose" in life was always an esoteric sort of concept. It was certainly clear to me that some people had a purpose in their lives, but not that ALL of us do.
Because it's clear to me now that for all of us living, we are still here because we have not fulfilled our purpose.
Now one other thing was clear was that it is possible for us to stay as long as we want because if we can become completely conscious to who we are and we know we fulfilled our purpose for this life, we can also choose to "raise the bar" without having to die and start over again.
So for anyone reading this, ask yourself:
- What is my purpose for living?
- If I don't know, what steps am I taking to finding out what that purpose is?
- If I do know, am I living ON purpose or am I avoiding it?
- Why am I avoiding it?
I started searching for my purpose a few years ago. I came across a book that may help anyone who is searching for this. It's a book by Dan Millman called "The Life You Were Born to Live."
It's a great book and should give you a head start on what you are seeking to find.
I took it to some people recently who didn't believe at all in astrology or numerology or any of that. These were electrical engineers and in their minds, none of that is logical.
We were all being laid off by a company that was moving its operations to Mexico, so many of us were taking another look at our lives. This was an opportunity for many of us to change directions.
I had already had several discussions with many of my co-workers who were worried about losing their jobs and yet wondered if they should just change careers altogether.
I told them that I had been working on making a career change for the past couple of years and pretty much had my plan figured out. I told them that actually it had been astrology that helped me find my way to what was going to be my new career.
I had an astrological chart done for me in 1990 and in that chart were some amazing things...things I had never even said out loud, but there it was in black and white.
One of the things it said was that I would be a good spiritual teacher. I was 27 at the time and this was certainly NOT one of the things that was on my mind at the time. I was in the Navy at that point and I grouped "spiritual" with religion...and having grown up in a very religious family, I wanted nothing to do with any of that.
Yet again and again over time, I found myself drawn to spiritual books and almost twenty years later, a spiritual teacher is exactly what I am.
But I took the Dan Millman book in to one very skeptical guy and showed him how to find his. He read it and started saying, "Wow. This is cool." Then he said he wanted to take it home. He told me later that he and his wife not only did theirs and everyone in their family...but everyone they could think of that they knew and they were amazed. They ended up buying a copy of the book for themselves.
Another electrical engineer friend of mine bought the book for himself as well...again completely blown away by how this book could be so dead on for who he was and what he might be interested in.
So if you have not yet found your purpose, I recommend Dan's book. It's a good start.
I also recommend having an astrological chart done professionally. Talk to people that have had one done before.
It won't do you much good to just do this on your Sun sign...i.e. just your month of birth. A good astrologer will not only want your exact birth date, but also your exact time of birth and birthplace.
I can tell you from my own experience that living my life on purpose is SO much more satisfying than just working in a job. I have yet to make the kind of money I was making in my "professional" life, but I still wouldn't trade this life for anything.
I get to do what I love for a living every day...and I believe that when more and more of us do that, then we will create the heaven on earth that so many of us desire.
Take that step.
Reach for your dreams.
You are here for a reason...and it's time to start living on purpose.
Namaste
